It's a week for post-season and championship play for two of Arkadelphia's winter sports as the AHS basketball teams will play in the 4A-7 District Basketball Tournament and the AHS wrestling team will participate in the AAA State Championships this weekend.

THE 4A-7 SENIOR HIGH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT tips off Monday night at Nashville High School, but both of Arkadelphia's teams will play their first-round games on Tuesday. Monday night features the 1-seed vs. 4-seed games and Tuesday will see the 2-seed vs. 3-seed games.

The Badgers will draw the host team in the Nashville Scrappers Tuesday at 5:15. The winner advances to the semifinals and qualifies for next week's 4A South Regional Tournament, also in Nashville. The season comes to an end for the losers of the first-round games Monday and Tuesday. Immediately following the AHS vs. NHS boys' game, the Lady Badgers will face off against the Robinson Lady Senators with the goal of advancing to the next stage of post-season play.

The first-round winners will play in Thursday's semifinal games and then on Saturday in either the championship or consolation games. For more information on the 4A-7 District Tournament, click here.

THE BADGER WRESTLING TEAM WILL wrap up its second year of competition this Friday and Saturday in the AAA State Wrestling Championships at the Jack Stephens Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. The wrestlers will compete Friday in hopes of advancing to Saturday's championship and consolation matches.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE AHS SWIM & DIVE TEAMS for their performance at last week's 1A-5A South District Swim Meet at HSU. Taylor Savage (one-meter diving) and William Matthews (100 back) qualified for the State Championship meet to be held next week in Bentonville. There is a high possibility that additional AHS swimmers could participate in the state meet after all entries are finalized. For more information on the results from the district meet, click here.

With the winter sports in the time for post-season play, the beginning of spring sports are just around the corner. The AHS soccer teams will play in a AAA benefit scrimmage next week and the baseball and softball team are just two weeks away from beginning their 2017 seasons as well. Be on the lookout for more information on spring sports in the coming days.
