AHS Juniors - Save the Date!

AHS ACT Bootcamp - January 28, 2020

Arkadelphia High School is providing an important opportunity for our Juniors to improve their ACT scores on January 28, 2020. On this day, all Juniors will board buses at AHS and travel to Henderson State University for special training designed to improve their ACT Performance. During the Bootcamp, students will be given a copy of The Official ACT Prep Guide 2019-2020 (a $34.95 Value) and will receive training on how to use the book and included online resources to improve their ACT Scores. Lunch will be provided by Southern Bancorp and Sodexo during the event. Please keep your schedule open on this date because this is a one time event specifically designed to help our juniors get ready for their ACT on March 10, 2020. The day's Schedule is below:

 8:00-8:30 - Board School Buses and travel to HSU-Garrison Center.

8:30-8:45 - Welcome by Nikki Thomas, AHS Principal and an HSU representative.

8:45-9:30 - Workshop on why the ACT is important - HSU Admissions Department/Jason Jones- Arkadelphia Promise.

9:30 - 9:45 - Break (Hand out The Official ACT Prep Guide 2019-2020)

9:45 - 10:30 - Workshop on the ACT Math Section - What do you need to know? - Nicole McGough (Local ACT Prep course instructor)

10:30 - 11:15 - Workshop on the ACT English Section - What do you need to know? - Beverly Slavens (AHS English Teacher)

11:15 - 12:00 - Workshop on the ACT Reading Section - What do you need to know? -Steve Patterson (AHS English Teacher)

12:00 -12:45 - Working lunch - Box lunch - Students will meet in small groups (10-15) with Mentors from HSU University to talk about the importance of a College Education.

12:45 - 1:00 - Break and clean up.

1:00 - 1:45 - Workshop on the ACT Science Section - What do you need to know? -Instructor (Bud McMillion - AHS instructional Facilitator)

1:45 - 2:45 - Students will receive instruction on the importance of practicing for the test. The day will conclude with a practice reading test from The Official ACT Prep Guide 2019-2020. Students will take the reading test section under the required time limit using techniques they have learned during the day. They will then grade themselves.

2:45 - Students will board buses and travel back to Arkadelphia High School
