BASKETBALL
It's post-season time for Badger and Lady Badger basketball and both teams tipped off the 4A-7 District Tournament wins in Ashdown last night in the first round. The Lady Badgers defeated Mena 38-30 and the Badgers defeated Fountain Lake 42-33.
Both teams return to Ashdown tonight for their respective quarterfinal games. The Lady Badgers face 3-seed Bauxite at 7:00 p.m. and the Badgers will follow with a game against 3-seed Waldron at 8:30. Updates at the end of each quarter will be posted on the "Badger Athletics" facebook page and on Twitter at "@APSD_Athletics".
The winners of tonight's game advance to Thursday night's semifinals and also qualify for next week's 4A South Regional Tournament in Dumas.
WRESTLING
The Badger wrestling team will be competing in the State Wrestling Championships this weekend at the Jack Stephens Center on the UALR campus in LR. The event will start Friday morning, February 19 and will conclude on Saturday with the finals. We'll post links to information when seeding and scheduling is completed. Good luck to our Badger wrestlers in their first state competition this weekend!
SWIMMING/DIVING
Congrats to the following members of the AHS Swimming and Diving team for their performances at Friday's South District Swim Meet at Bishop Park in Bryant.
Boys' team: 4th place in the district
Taylor Savage -- District Champion in 1-meter diving and state qualifier
Nick Gerber -- Sate Qualifier in 1-meter diving
David Lloyd -- 3rd in 100 fly and state qualifier
William Matthews -- 4th in 100 fly
David Lloyd -- 2nd in 100 back and state qualifier
William Matthews -- 4th in 100 back
Blanton Matthews -- 8th in 100 breast
Girls' team:
Kayla Thompson -- 2nd in 100 back
Kayla Thompson -- 6th in 100 free
Sallie Matthews -- 8th in 100 free
Sallie Matthews -- 9th in 50 free
The state meet will be February 25 (diving) and February 26 (swimming) in Bentonville. The full field of qualifiers will be announced after the February 19 submission deadline.
