AT STAKE: The winners of the four first-round games in each Regional clinch a berth in the 4A State Basketball Tournament to be held next week at Ozark High School. Winning the first game of the Regional is the most important task for teams. The four winners will then play for a Regional Championship and seeding to represent the 4A South in the State Tourney. The season comes to an end for teams that lose the first round games at the Regional Tournament.

There are 3 regions in Class 4A and 4 teams from each region advance to the 4A State Tournament.

AHS 1st ROUND OPPONENT: The Badgers will face Warren, which wrapped up the fourth seed from the 4A-8 in a somewhat odd way. The 4A-8 does not play a District tournament, but qualifies the top four from the regular season standings after the double round robin schedules of games.

Dumas and Dollarway were scheduled to play a make-up game Monday that was postponed when last week's round of winter weather hit, but Monday's winter weather delayed that game. After deciding that the two teams were not going to be able to make up the game Tuesday, based on AAA policy, both teams were forced to take a loss for the game. That put Dollarway and Warren in a tie for 4th at 7-7. Warren held the tiebreaker so they advance to the Regional to face the Badgers who are the 1 seed from the 4A-7 after winning the District Tournament championship Saturday night at Bauxite.

RADIO: All AHS games can be heard on ESPN WPS 106.9 FM in Arkadelphia and Southwest Arkansas. Games can also be heard on your mobile device on the free ESPN Radio app. Search for "ESPN WPS" on the "Live Stations" tab at the bottom of the ESPN Radio app landing page.

WINTER WEATHER: The Arkansas Activities Association announced Wednesday morning that the winter weather that is making its way across southern Arkansas has forced a postponement of the beginning of the 4A South Regional to Thursday, February 26. The start times will stay the same, but the days will be pushed back.

As of Tuesday evening, we have not heard of any changes in the 4A South Basketball Regional scheduled to start Wednesday in Monticello. The Badgers are scheduled to play Warren at 5:30 at Monticello High School.

Due to the timing of the forecast of the potential snow being mid-morning, the most likely scenario is that a decision won't be made until after those in charge have a chance to see the movement of the front overnight. Whereas the track is suggesting that south Arkansas could receive snow, there always exists the possibility that it could move, dissipate completely or lessen in strength.

We will communicate any new information with you here and through the APSD Athletic Twitter account (@APSD_Athletics).

Go Badgers!
