We want to send a big THANK YOU to Farm Bureau for hosting the 6th grade on 5/22 at the fair grounds. They had a fun time learning about electrical safety, water/boat safety, and ATV safety. They got to see the AirEvac Lifeteam helicopter take off, the 4 H animals, a cow milking simulator and a cotton education simulator. They topped it off with lunch. It was a great day! Thanks so much to all who helped make this day possible!

8th grade Students only: If you are interested in competing on the golf team this summer and fall should sign the list in the office. Students must have their own clubs, shoes, and golf balls, and have a pre-participation physical in order to participate. Practice starts on June 1st. Deadline to sign up is Thursday, May 24.

The Art Studio Classroom is preparing for their annual spring art show to be held at the Arkadelphia Art Center. The students actually hang, label and prepare the reception for their many guests. The art show will open May 8 and run through May 25 at the Arkadelphia Arts Center located downtown. The show's reception for the students, their families and friends will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, with refreshments, awards and lots of interesting artwork to wow you.

Goza will be starting a gourmet popcorn fundraiser beginning on Monday, Feb. 26th and running through Friday March 9th. All the proceeds from your sales will go to help the students and teachers at Goza throughout the school year. Please help by selling to friends, family and neighbors. If you sell 10 or more bags, you will be invited to a popcorn party and the top sellers form each grade will receive a $50 Visa card!

Goza Middle School FBLA challenges all students to participate in a dress-for-success activity on Wednesday, February 28th in observance of Career and Technical Education month; and more importantly, encourage students to make good, first impressions.
Students are to dress in business/professional attire on Wednesday, February 28th. *Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 during each lunch.

CHAMPS is having our student/faculty basketball game on Friday March 16th starting around 9:30 until first lunch. Coach Ware is going to lead our faculty team, so please see him if you are interested in playing. I will have an announcement informing 7th - 8th grade students to sign-up with me to be on the student team. Cost to play is $5 and admission is $2. All money will be donated to our Goza Relay for Life team. Student Council is going to run the concession stand to raise money for the Friendship Scholarship. Youth Act will be selling Crush and Fanta drinks for $1.00 during lunch beginning February 1st and selling through February 12th. There will be a table set up in the cafeteria for you to purchase one and write a sweet message. The drinks will be delivered on February 14th during 6th period. Every dollar spent will go towards the Goza Friendship Scholarship. Thank you!

Goza CHAMPS is partnering with our counselors and Patterson Federal Credit Union to bring the Great Kindness Challenge to Goza Middle School February 12-14. We will be having a poster design contest for the students to create a poster encouraging kindness. Posters will need to be given to Mrs. Cotton or Mrs. Tuggle by Friday February 9th. Winners will be announced on Monday 12th. Each day a student will share a short kindness quote or story over the announcements, one homeroom class will be selected to receive a random a of kindness treat each day, and Patterson Federal Credit Union is providing treats for the teachers. Each day students and faculty are encourage to participate in random acts of kindness towards others and dress in the theme for that day.

Goza’s Youth Act Student Council and the Media Center are teaming up to host a fundraising event for the Humane Society of Clark County. We will be collecting bags of dog and cat food and kitty litter from May 8 to Friday, May 19 to be donated to the Humane Society. When you bring in a bag of food or kitty litter, you can receive a tardy pass, good for one free tardy from class, or if you have a lost library book, you can be excused from that book up to $10. Please do not bring canned pet food – only bagged to receive your incentive. You may bring your donated items any time to the Media Center.

The National Junior Honor Society will initiate 35 students Tuesday, May 2, 6:00 p.m. at the Goza Student Center.

Students that are assigned to ISS or OSS beginning Monday, April 10-May 12, will be assigned to study hall during the basketball game on May 12th.

Student faculty basketball game is Friday, May 12 from 9:15 to first lunch. Admission to the game is $2, or you can pay $1 and donate a box of cereal for the summer food drive. Admission and cereal donations will be collected the morning of the game, and students will have their hand stamped. The student team will consist of the first ten 8th graders that pay their $5 to be on the team. Mrs. Christy Smith has volunteered to collect the $5 from the 8th grade students that want to play. We will have a concession stand, so bring some extra money for some good treats. Admission money collected will be donated to Relay for Life and concession stand profit will go towards the Goza Friendship Scholarship.

The band field trip to Magic Springs will be on Thursday, May 25th. We will dismiss students at 9:30 that day and return by 5:00.

6th Grade field trip May 22nd (Monday) to Funtrackers in Hot Springs.
The cost will be $10.00, make checks to payable to Goza Middle School. For security purposes students are required to wear their unaltered 2016-17 Goza T-shirt for this field trip. Please do not wear flip flops or open toe shoes. Our field trip is a reward trip on which the students attending will be expected to exhibit model behavior. Any student with Saturday School, In-School Suspension, or Out-of-School Suspension April 3, 2017, through May 19, 2017 will be ineligible to attend this field trip. It is important to note that this trip is nonrefundable.

8th grade field trip :Magic Springs & Crystal Falls Education in Motion
When: May 19th, 2017 Cost: $20.00 Permission Slip and Money due April 28th.
“Education in Motion” at Magic Springsis an educational reward trip on which the students attending will be expected to exhibit model behavior.Students having Saturday school, ISS, or OSS from April 3rd to May 25th will not be eligible to go on the trip. All students must wear the 2016-2017 Goza t-shirt. Bathing suits must be one piece for girls or a t-shirt has to be worn over a two piece and swim trunks for boys.

The 7th grade fieldtrip is planned for Friday, May 26 to Playtime Pizza in Little Rock. 7th grade math teachers will pass out information forms to the students this week. Thursday, March 2, 2017 all 8th grade students will be screened for BMI and scoliosis. for scoliosis. If your child has had a well child check up in the last year and you do not want your child to participate in the BMI screening a written note must be sent to the school before this day. No phone calls can be excepted. If your child has been screened by a physician for scoliosis a copy of the screening must be sent to Goza before the Feb 28th if you do not want them to participate. All students who are absent will be screened at a later date. Students are encouraged to wear a tank top under their shirts. Shirts should be easy to remove and put back on to make the scoliosis screening easier on them.

Goza Kids Day at OBU December 16
Coach Garry Crowder has invited Goza students to Ouachita Baptist University to watch a Lady Tigers basketball game on December 16, 2016. The Lady Tigers will host Blue Mountain College. (Free Admission)
Goza students must wear their 2016-2017 Goza t-shirt. Students not wearing their Goza t-shirt will remain at school. If you have not purchased a t-shirt, there are still shirts in the office on sale for $10.
Students that are assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) or Out of School Suspension (OSS) between December 1 and December 16 will not be able to attend the game. Those students will remain at Goza in study hall.
OBU Director of Athletics will be providing lunch at no cost.
Concessions will be available during the game. Students may purchase items from the concession stand.
Game time is 12 noon and students will be back on campus no later than 2:30 p.m.

Poinsettia Directions for Students
• Sales begin Monday, Oct. 17- Oct. 31.
• When you sell a poinsettia, you should collect money from your customer. Poinsettias will be ordered only if the customer pays up front.
• Make sure you include name, email and phone number of the customer on the order form so that you can notify him/her when the order arrives.
• If a customer wants to write a check, ask them to make it payable to Goza Middle School.
• Turn in all money to your homeroom teacher when you have completed your sales.
• Do not bring your order form to school until you are ready to turn it into your homeroom teacher.
Poinsettia Fundraiser Incentives
***Students that sell 10 or more Poinsettias will have their name entered into a drawing for a $50 dollar bill / per every 15 students.
**The homeroom that sells the most poinsettias per grade level will receive a 30 minute recess.

Velocity Athletic training is a camp at Feaster Park on Saturday April 16 from 10am to 3pm for kids ages 7-12. This event will cost $5.00, having games such as tug of war, kickball, dodgeball, and flag football. HSU athletes will be hosting this to get kids out to have fun and promote exercise. The Goza Middle School 8th Grade Quiz Bowl Team took 2nd Place honors at AGQBA 4A Jr. High State Finals at Morrilton, AR on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016. Nine schools competed in their division with the Goza team advancing to the championship round. Also, by virtue of outstanding play at the state finals, One of our students were named to the State Finals All-Tournament Team. He will be eligible to play at the All- Tournament Team Championship in May. Ms. Nancy Mortensen was sponsor.

6th Grade Quiz Bowl Team Captures 1st place. The Goza Middle School 6th Grade Quiz Bowl Team took 1st place at the Murfreesboro Elementary Quiz Bowl Tournament on February 25, 2016. 16 teams competed in the invitational tourney with Goza 6th Grade posting eight game wins. The Goza 6th Grade Ms. Nancy Mortensen was sponsor. We are so proud of our students!

We have a pot bellied pig that would love to be kissed at our student/faculty game on Friday March 18, but the pig will only show up if we collect a total of $200 in the jars. That is a little less than 50 cents per student. Admission to the game will be $1 and refreshments will be sold.

Any 7th grader who receives OSS, ISS, or Saturday School after February 29 will not be eligible to attend the7th grade class field trip. Also, any student who owes library fines or core textbooks will not be allowed to attend the 7th grade field trip.

Eight teams competed from around the region, including: Malvern, Lakeside, Lake Hamilton, Bryant, Bethal, Benton, Hot Springs and Goza. One of our 6th graders captured individual 1st Place Overall Chess Champion honors from a field of 54 competitors. Ms. Nancy Mortensen was team sponsor. It's a great day to be a Badger!

Tennis lessons are available to 7th-12th graders who are interested in learning tennis or improving their game. Goza’s Fall Book Fair begins Friday, Oct. 16, and will last through Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Goza Media Center. Friday is Preview Day, with sales beginning the following Monday. Hours are 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The Book Fair will also be open during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

In the AR Education Report, Goza was in the top 10 middle schools in the state based on EOC Algebra Achievement. This is the 4th year for Goza to receive this award.

Youth Act will be selling Pumpkin Grams for 50 cents until Oct. 28th. Pumpkin Grams will be delivered on Halloween. All proceeds will go to Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Flu shots will be given at Goza tomorrow for students that returned paper work.

Book Fair begins tomorrow and will last through Thurs., Oct 23rd in the Goza Media Center. It will also be open during Parent-Teacher Conferences, Oct 23rd, 2-7 p.m.

The start time for today's 7th Badger football game against Hot Springs has been changed to 6:00 p.m. on Allcare Field at Badger Stadium.
