AHS 2020 Senior Graduation Expectations

March 30, 2020

Attention Arkadelphia High School Class of 2020:

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education has issued guidance for high school seniors that are to graduate and were in good standing at the end of the third quarter.  These seniors are considered to have met graduation requirements for the State of Arkansas with the following exceptions:

  • Seniors enrolled in HSU or OBU college classes must complete the class with a passing grade.  Concurrent college credit is being awarded for those classes.

  • Seniors enrolled in ASU-Three Rivers technical classes (Industrial Equipment Maintenance/Welding) must complete their classes online via ASU’s instructions.

  • Seniors enrolled in AP courses must continue those courses with AHS instructors in preparation for the AP exams that are required by Arkadelphia Public School District to be taken for weighted credit.  Once the test is taken, continued participation in class is waived.

  • Seniors needing to take CTE tests for specific certifications will be contacted by email by CTE teachers as those plans develop.

  • Seniors who do not have a passing grade as of March 20, 2020, will need to work with the teacher(s) and counselor to recover the credit.

  • Seniors will need to return all school equipment and books, and take care of any outstanding debts.  The process for that will be communicated at a later date.

Beginning March 31st, the administrative team and counselors at AHS will review transcripts and other data to determine if you have met the requirements to graduate.  For those of you not on track based on transcript, grades, or other data, we will work with you to provide support and an opportunity to meet those requirements for graduation.  Please check your school email, social media and the school website frequently for updates.

We will continue to practice all recommended social distancing guidelines from Governor Hutchinson, and we will not gather in large groups for the duration of those guidelines.  As for a graduation ceremony, we will continue to monitor guidance from the state level and develop a plan as we have more information.

This is the most recent guidance we have regarding senior graduation.  We will continue to follow guidelines from the Department of Education regarding all matters involving all students. We are committed to the safety of all of our students and appreciate your patience and understanding during this national health crisis.  We will provide more information as it becomes available to us.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact me, Coach Smith or Mrs. Macon through our school email accounts.
