Queen surprises students with news of publication

SURPRISE to Mr. Queen's english students!

Arkansas Writers in the Schools (WITS) recently published 12 Arkadelphia High School English students in its poetry anthology, “What is the Function of the Heart?”

WITS visited Mr. Sean Queen’s English class for a two-day workshop during the 2015-16 school year. After the workshop, students submitted their poetry pieces to the organization. Queen received notice this month that WITS selected and published poems of the following students: Tyler Allen, Kelton Anderson, Caleb Bird, Heather Bolt, Bradley Davis, Nelson Ferguson, Peyton Fleenor, William Mauldin, TJ McKay, Jayla Quarles, Diana Summerville, and Lily Tibbs.

Arkadelphia High School is one of 35 schools featured in the poetry anthology for the 2015-16 year. WITS has published poetry anthologies for over 40 years. According to the WITS website, the program is aimed at “empowering young people across the state of Arkansas by opening doors to self-expression, awareness, articulation, and creative problem-solving- all through the writing and sharing of poetry.”
