The regular season is winding down and this is the first week of post-season play for our varsity teams as baseball, softball and track are on tap for the first post-season play of the spring. The complete week's schedule as we know right now is below.

TONIGHT IS A BIG NIGHT FOR BADGER BASEBALL as Arkadelphia will host Bauxite in the final conference game for both teams at the Arkadelphia Youth Sports Complex at 5:00 pm. AHS and Bauxite are both 5-1 heading into tonight's game and the seeding scenarios for the District tourney later this week are hanging in the balance.

4A-7 BASEBALL STANDINGS as of Sunday, April 24
Ashdown          6-1
Arkadelphia     5-1
Bauxite             5-1
Nashville         5-2
Malvern            3-4
Fountain Lake  1-5
Waldron            1-6
Mena                 0-6

The winner of this game will be the 4A-7 regular season co-champion with Ashdown. If Arkadelphia wins, the Badgers will be the number one seed in the District tourney as they hold the head to head tiebreak over Ashdown. If Bauxite wins, the Miners will be second and Ashdown will be first as Ashdown holds the head to head tiebreak over the Miners.

A Badger loss would put AHS as the fourth seed as Nashville holds the head to head tiebreak as both teams would be 5-2.

Finishing as the top seed is big for a team as the top two seeds in this week's District tournament automatically qualify for next week's 4A South Regional in Monticello. The 4A-7 District baseball will begin Wednesday in Bauxite and we'll post the tournament bracket and other info as plans are finalized after tonight's games.

GOOD LUCK TO THE AHS TRACK & FIELD TEAM in Tuesday's 4A-7 district track meet in Ashdown. The meet was originally scheduled to be run Thursday but was moved to Tuesday, April 26, due to the potential for rain later in the week. AHS sophomore Jasmine Gordon will be one of the favorites in the 100 and 200 as she has already qualified for the 4A State meet with her performances earlier in the season.

THE LADY BADGER SOFTBALL TEAM will be the fifth seed in this week's 4A-7 District softball tournament in Nashville. AHS will play Fountain Lake in the first round with Malvern awaiting the winner in the second round. The winner of that game will qualify for the 4A South Regional which will be held in Malvern. When the tournament bracket is released early this week, we'll update.

THE ASH SOCCER TEAMS HAVE TWO ROAD matches this week as their regular season has two weeks left. Both teams are in position to make a run down the stretch and qualify for the 4A State Tournament in Harrison. After this week's matches are complete, we'll have a better feel for the conference standings and how post-season play will shape up.

AS ALWAYS WEATHER COULD CHANGE our plans, so keep a watch on the website, Facebook and Twitter for updates as we receive them.
