Online Learning Information for
Arkadelphia Public Schools
The Arkadelphia Public School District is committed to meeting the needs of every family in relation to their student’s education. For the 2021-22 School Year, APSD will offer an online learning option for kindergarten through twelfth grade students. In offering these learning opportunities, we are striving to accommodate the diverse learning needs of our students and their families with equity and excellence.
Students who are accepted into Arkadelphia Online Learning will primarily be enrolled in a virtual program that utilizes course content and teachers provided by either the Dawson Education Service Cooperative (K-6) or Virtual Arkansas (7-12).
K-6 Students will be enrolled in online courses as an Arkadelphia Public School student, however, the online content will be provided by Dawson Education Service Cooperative. Students will be taught by Dawson Education Service Cooperative teachers through an online learning management system. Arkadelphia School District will provide a facilitator who will work in cooperation with the Dawson Cooperative, students, and their families.
Students accepted into the online program for Grades 7-12 will be enrolled as an Arkadelphia Public School student, however, the online content will be provided by Virtual Arkansas. Students will be enrolled in courses that will be taught by Virtual Arkansas Teachers. Virtual Arkansas has been a successful supplemental virtual school for more than two decades. Virtual Arkansas is piloting courses for 7th and 8th grade students in the 2021-22 School Year.
Arkadelphia online students may still participate in athletics and extracurricular activities. However, students must attend the extracurricular classes in-person.
Students must apply to attend Arkadelphia Online Learning. Applications will be reviewed to determine whether virtual is the best learning environment for students interested in the online school option. Current online learning students MUST complete the application if wanting to continue with online learning during the 2021-22 school year. APSD will not automatically re-enroll current online students into the online learning program for the next school year.
Enrollment criteria will include attendance, overall academic performance, course grades for 2020-21, student/parent participation and communication, student achievement, and RTI data. Additional data points could be used to assess students for online learning. Students will make a commitment to at least one semester for online learning. If a change is needed, school officials will work with parents to place students into the most effective learning option at that time.
NOTE: Arkadelphia Online Learning students will be required to take NWEA and state mandated assessments (such as ACT Aspire) on campus. Students who did not participate in NWEA and/or state mandated assessments in the previous year (2020-21) will not be eligible for the Arkadelphia Online Learning.
