Books for Badgers DQ

Peake Primary School Media Specialist Charlotte DeWitt and Perritt Primary School Media Specialist Kaila Murphy were recognized at the August Regular School Board Meeting with a Badger Pride Award in recognition of taking Books for Badgers to Arkadelphia students this summer. On July 7th,14th, and 28th, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. DeWitt loaded up Mrs. DeWitt's vehicle and headed to five different locations across Arkadelphia. Each week, they brought with them books that had been donated or purchased for the purpose of children ages 0-18 receiving a free book and also a free popsicle.

Mrs. DeWitt and Mrs. Murphy could not have done this without the help of Arkadelphia community partners. The financial support of Patterson Federal Credit Union and Siplast provided the opportunity for new books and popsicles to be purchased as well as Books for Badger signage that signaled to everyone what was going on. Individuals and organizations also donated new and gently used books that the children loved to browse through before settling on their choice of one to take home.

On Tuesday, August 2, Books for Badgers had a pop-up event at the Arkadelphia Dairy Queen. Each child who came by received a free book and a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Dairy Queen.

Special thanks to Patterson Federal Credit Union, Siplast, and Dairy Queen for your part in Books for Badgers! Books for Badgers distributed over 170 books this summer to children in the community.

We appreciate Mrs. DeWitt and Mrs. Murphy for their vision to bring Books for Badgers this summer to our children, even in the hot July temperatures.  Thank you to BC Stanley of Peake Elementary School for her participation also. You all are amazing! Be looking for the next Books for Badgers event that should be coming this fall!
