At the October Regular School Board meeting, the Arkadelphia School District Special Education Department was recognized with a Badger Pride Award. Goza Middle School teacher Dr. Julia Rawls, Peake Elementary School teacher Michelle Cummings, and Peake Elementary School teacher Amanda Klein represented the department at the meeting to receive the award. Judy Talley is the APSD Special Education Director.

The APSD Special Education Department recently received the results from the Arkansas Department of Education Family Surveys that were conducted last school year. There were 98 surveys completed by parents of Arkadelphia students. Over 88% of the parents surveyed indicated general education and special education teachers in the district work together for students. Over 90% of parents indicated concerns that they had regarding their child’s education were documented in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Over 90% of families reported valuing the school’s input in regard to their child’s education.  These results prove what we have known all along, that we have the BEST team here in the Arkadelphia School District!

The results are a testament to the work being done by our Special Education staff to ensure the involvement of parents and general education teachers in planning IEPs for our students with special needs. The survey data shows that our families have confidence when sending their children to Arkadelphia Public Schools knowing that our employees are striving to meet the needs of their children.

The APSD Administration would like to thank the entire Special Education Team, under the leadership of Mrs. Judy Talley, for all of their hard work.
