Our CTE Month Student Spotlight is AHS Jr. Blaise Batson. Blaise is a member of FBLA and won first place at the District IV Leadership Conference in Introduction to Public Speaking (9th and 10th Grade) and in Public Speaking (11th Grade). In April, she will compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Public Speaking. Blaise earned her certification in Microsoft Word and Excel. Blaise says she participates in FBLA and takes CTE classes because "I know that the skills I learn are irreplaceable in the workforce. I love that I can both better myself and attain qualities that will aid me in the future." Blaise plans to attend college and is considering a career in law.
The Arkadelphia School District received a check in February from the Shell Giving Pump Initiative. This was made possible by the Road Runner Stores Spirit Pump located in Arkadelphia. We appreciate Road Runner and the customers who made this possible for our school district!
Perritt Primary Paraprofessionals Karen Ford, Paula McNeal, LaSandra Beard, Jalisa Bowers (not pictured), and Toma Anderson (not pictured) were recognized with a Badger Pride Award at February's School Board Meeting. Principal Heather Williams recognizes "they go above and beyond on a daily basis, usually behind the scenes, to make Perritt a safe, welcoming, & loving place to be! The best of the best!"
For Thursday, February 24: The Arkadelphia School District is delaying the start time of the school day until 10:00 a.m. Buses will run their normal routes with a two-hour delay. Breakfast will be served at all school campuses. Thank you for your patience as decisions are made to have students and staff safely at school.
Today, our CTE Student Spotlight is on AHS Senior Taylor Killackey. Taylor has been a part of AHS JROTC for four years and now serves as Cadet Captain. He will be a CTE Completer in the Army JROTC Program of Study. Taylor plans to attend ASU Three Rivers to study welding. #CTE
A BIG THANK YOU to Athletic Director Donald Williams, the APSD Athletic Staff, AHS Principal Callie Hunley, Assistant Principal Trent Smith, and the AHS Staff for their work to host the 4A-7 District Basketball Tournament last week. We appreciate the support through time, effort, and donations the staff, families, and community gave to successfully bring this event to our district. Thank you for giving this opportunity to the student athletes!
At this time, with the potential for freezing rain tonight with temps hovering at and just below freezing, the Arkadelphia School District will be on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 24th. We will re-evaluate road conditions in the morning and post an update by 7:00 a.m. Thank you for your patience as we strive to keep our students and staff safe.
During CTE Month, we spotlight AHS Jr. Mtende Moyo. Mtende is a member of FBLA at AHS. He has won first place at the FBLA District Level in Publication and Graphic Design. Mtende says participating in FBLA competitive events brings on a new challenge for new ideas in the area he enjoys. While in the Survey of Business class, Mtende earned his certification in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. In April, he will compete at the FBLA State Leadership Conference in graphic design.

The AHS Foundations of Teaching class visited Peake Elementary School today. The students presented a lesson on Black History to the third grade classes of Ms. Hesse, Ms. Taylor, and Ms. Morris. Mrs. Ashley Wesley is the teacher for the Pre-Educator Program of Study at AHS. #BHM

Tuesday, February 22, is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! We are so grateful for all our bus drivers in the Arkadelphia Public School District. Tomorrow, help us show our appreciation to the men and women who transport our children safely to and from school each day!

Arkadelphia Quiz Bowl Students participated in the Ouachita Jr. High Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament last month. Our 9th Grade team won the tournament! Bryce Martin (9th Grade) was named MVP and Timothy LeVar (8th Grade) was named All-Tournament. This Saturday, the 4A Southwest Regional Quiz Bowl Tournament for Junior High will be held at Goza Middle School. It is great to see your hard work paying off!
February 15th is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. We do not want to miss the opportunity to give a special thank you to our own School Resource Officers, Corporal Jimmy Shearin and Corporal Dewayne Ward. We appreciate all you do for our schools & community!
