Peake Elementary School Kindergarten Student Ja’Marious Hadley was recognized in the October Arkadelphia Board of Education meeting with a Badger Pride Award. Ja’Marious was nominated for the Badger Pride by Ms. Snowden, Peake's Principal. His teacher, Dawn Forthman recommended JaMarious Hadley for the CKH Award for demonstrating the September Word of the Month, empathy. He witnessed a classmate having a hard time getting a notebook put away. Ja’Marious stepped in and showed his classmate a way to make it easier. This is a reminder of some important dates on our school calendar starting next week. On Thursday, October 24th, our schools will host Parent Teacher Conferences from 2:00p.m. -7:00p.m. Families at Peake Elementary School will have an appointment time through their homeroom teacher. There will be NO school this year on Parent Teacher Conference Day.
There will be NO school for students on October 24 (Thursday), 25 (Friday), and 28 (Monday). Students will return to school after the break on Tuesday, October 29th.
Parents/Guardians, you should have received this information through email on Friday afternoon. If you did not receive the email, please contact your child's school to confirm you have the correct email address on record.

This afternoon, the third-grade classes performed the first musical presentation of the year at the new Peake Elementary School building. The homeroom classes of Ms. Hesse, Wyatt, Cole, MaGee, and Resnick will perform "All American Me and You" again at 6:00 p.m. this evening.

The AHS and Goza FBLA Chapters are hosting the UAMS Mammovan today. Women from across the community can come to have a mammogram done free through various insurance and programs available. FBLA donated $500 to the UAMS Mammovan through proceeds from their Breast Cancer Awareness fundraisers. FBLA is also hosting a Breast Cancer Survivor Luncheon on Thursday, October 31st at Dawson Co-op Building #7. Congratulations to Arkadelphia Badger Senior Cash Cook for placing in the Top 10 during the 4A State Golf Tournament last week in Hot Springs! Cash finished 4th at the 4A-7 District Golf Tournament to qualify for the state tournament. He has been named to the 4A All-State Boys Golf Team. Congratulations Cash!

The Arkadelphia Public Schools Board of Education met in a work session on Friday, October 11th. Henderson State University Chancellor Trey Berry began the work session with an inspirational challenge for the district leadership. Superintendent Nikki Thomas and the seven school board members reviewed the current strategic plan by identifying the progress and potential toward reaching each goal. The District is now looking to move forward with building a new Arkadelphia High School. Clayton Vaden of Lewis Architects Engineers, Dr. Charles Stein, Director of the Arkansas Division of Public School Academic Facilities, and Transportation, and Jason Holsclaw, Stephens, Inc., provided information and options for consideration as a new building project takes shape. Exciting things are happening!

The Arkadelphia High School JROTC Program has a new Senior Army Instructor. We welcome Retired Colonel Robert Parsons this school year. Colonel Parson's hometown is El Paso, Texas; high school alma mater is Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and college alma mater is Brigham Young University. He enjoys reading and playing disc golf. We are happy to have Robert Parsons in the Arkadelphia Public School District!

The Peake Elementary School September Students of the Month were treated to the first Pizza with Police this school year. We appreciate Patterson Federal Credit Union for providing the pizza and Dr. Jeanette Turner for the water and paper goods. A special thank you to Peake School Resource Officer Jimmy Shearin and the Arkadelphia Police Department for making this event happen for our students. Congratulations!

The 2014 AHS 4A State Championship Baseball team will be recognized at Friday's game. Former players from that team are asked to gather with Coach Matros on the track. There will also be a tailgate at 6 p.m., in front of Goza. RSVP to Coach Brant Matros at 870-403-2914.

VOLLEYBALL SENIOR NIGHT! Tonight the Lady Badger Volleyball team takes on Waldron at home. Seniors will be recognized before the start of the Varsity game. There will be three games this evening starting with the 8th Grade Lady Badgers at 4:30 p.m. followed by the 9th Grade game, Senior Recognitions, and Varsity game.

The Badger Tennis teams competed at the 4A-7 District Tournament on Monday. Our boys finished as Co-Champions! The girls finished in 3rd place at the District Tournament. Each competitor placing 1st-3rd place qualified to participate in the 4A State Tournament in Clarksville on October 14th.
