Good news to end the week! The Arkadelphia 9th Grade Quiz Bowl Team earned first place today at the Jr. High Regional tournament going undefeated. The team will compete in the 4A Junior High State tournament on February 15th. David Garrett was named tournament MVP with an average of 200 points per game. Congratulations! #BadgerPride

January is School Board Recognition Month! We have been celebrating our Arkadelphia Board of Education which includes members Blake Bell, President–Zone 5; Ida Tramble Vice President–Zone 3; Gina White, Secretary–Zone 7; Dr. Kenneth G. Harris Jr–Zone 2; Matt Johnson–Zone1; Lori Smith–Zone 4; and Clark Tennyson–Zone 6. Before our January School Board meeting, Nabholz Construction prepared a delicious steak dinner for the board members. Desserts were provided by Chartwells Food Service. We are grateful to both organizations for this special treat for the board. During the meeting, Superintendent Nikki Thomas shared proclamations by Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders and Arkadelphia Mayor Scott Board declaring January as School Board Recognition Month. Each board member was presented an ASBA Certificate of Recognition, a photo book commemorating district accomplishments over the past year, a gift bag from Chartwells, and a customized journal from Goza Middle School. A video was also played with students giving messages of appreciation The Arkansas School Board Association theme for this year’s celebration is “Local Leadership, Lasting Impact.” Thank you to the Arkadelphia School for your dedication and leadership. Friday the 14th is a Flex Day for teachers; there is NO school for students that day. Monday, February 17, school will be in session for students as a make-up day for the snow day on January 10. This semester Arkadelphia Public School District welcomes Ms. Jaci Ruffin to Peake Elementary as a 3rd Grade Math and Science Teacher. Jaci graduated from Bismarck High School and Henderson State University. Ms. Ruffin was inspired to enter education by a passionate elementary school teacher she had the opportunity to shadow while Jaci was still in high school. January 27–January 31: The last full week in January has been designated by the Arkansas Legislature as Holocaust Education Week in Arkansas. On Monday, Goza Middle School Eighth Grade Social Studies Teacher and current Arkadelphia Public Schools Teacher of the Year Meridith Armstrong was recognized as the 2025 AHEAD Teacher Award Recipient at a ceremony in Little Rock. The AHEAD Fund is dedicated to supporting teachers and their ambitions who go above and beyond in teaching the powerful lessons of the Holocaust. As the AHEAD Teacher Award Recipient, Mrs. Armstrong was given a $5,000 grant to purchase educational Holocaust materials and resources to instruct on the history and tolerance through the lessons of the Holocaust. She has some great plans for our students. Congratulations to Mrs. Armstrong on receiving this recognition and grant! You have gone above and beyond. #BadgerPride

In the January Arkadelphia Board of Education meeting, special recognitions were made during the Badger Pride Awards for the Arkadelphia Badger Football team. The District publicly recognized and congratulated the team and some specific individuals for their accomplishments and outstanding representation of our school district at the state level. A Badger Pride was presented to Head Coach Trey Schucker in honor of the whole team and the coaching staff. Coach Schucker was also recognized for being named 4A Farm Bureau Coach of the Year and to the 4A All-Star Coaching Staff (and now KATV/Red River Coach of the Year). Players recognized were Jaquavus Purifoy, Farm Bureau 4A Offensive Player of the Year; Carson Carozza, Brandon Burlsworth 4A Championship Player of the Game; and Brayden Wagner, 4A State Championship Game Farm Bureau MVP. Congratulations to the players and coaches for your outstanding accomplishment! #BadgerPride
