Misty, a sixth-grade teacher at Goza Middle School, was recognized at the August School Board meeting with a Badger Pride Award. She was named one of 15 finalists for Arkansas Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Smith was honored in July at a ceremony at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion and in August at the Arkansas Travelers Teacher Appreciation Night.

Arkadelphia Public Schools is excited to welcome Ms. Heather McDaniel back to the Badger Family! This marks her 8th year in education. This year, she will be teaching 11th and 12th grade English and looks forward to helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. One of the things she loves most about Arkadelphia is its supportive, fun, and welcoming community and she’s grateful to be part of it once again.
According to the United States Census Bureau, September 15 to October 15 marks the annual recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month. This is a time to celebrate the contributions of Americans tracing their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean.
This started as a week-long observance in 1968 under President Johnson and expanded to a month-long observance under President Reagan in 1988. This time period includes the celebration of independence for several of our neighbors to the south: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15; Mexico on September 16; Chile on September 18; and Belize on September 21.
The APSD ESOL personnel join with the rest of our district to acknowledge the contributions of Hispanic/Latino Americans and to recognize their history, journeys, and achievements. We invite you to support the opportunities to showcase the cultural influences of the Hispanic community locally.

Today is Patriot Day. A national day of remembrance and reflection for the victims and heroes of the September 11 attacks in 2001. Some of us were at school that day, some may not have been born yet, but the events of September 11 have a profound impact on our country still today. Never forget.

Please welcome to the Badger Family, Mrs. Autumn Greenwood! Mrs. Greenwood is teaching 1st Grade at Peake Elementary this year. A recent graduate of Henderson State University, she is currently pursuing her Master’s in Educational Leadership. In the August Board of Education meeting, the AHS Band Booster Food Committee members were recognized with Badger Pride Awards. They were nominated by the AHS Leadership Team, who commended the group for going above and beyond during summer practices to ensure the band students were well fed and hydrated, enabling them to focus on learning the 2025 marching band show. Committee members include Nancy Harrell (chair), Jennifer Almand, Karen Campbell, Jimmy and Micah Darby, Liz Martin, and Amy Taylor. Members not pictured are Lori Copeland, Terese Cox, Tannea Nelson, and Wendy Schaeffer. They are continuing their work on meals for students as the marching season has now begun. We appreciate ALL you are doing to support our band!

Arkadelphia High School Instructional Facilitator Jill Hardin gave the instructional data report during last month’s Arkadelphia School Board meeting. Mrs. Hardin presented results from the ACT exam administered to 10th and 11th grade students last spring on the AHS campus. These results included two perfect English scores by current seniors Ellie Echols and Timothy LeVar. Timothy also scored perfectly on the reading portion of the exam. Jill also presented goals for seeing continued improvement, including RTI ACT Prep time with educators such as Ms. Slavens.

Peake Elementary is excited to welcome Ms. Autumn Blankenship as our new 4th Grade Teacher. Her 3rd grade teacher inspired her to pursue a career in education by creating a welcoming and supportive classroom environment and she wants to continue that her classroom.
