Today, we honor our final board member during School Board Recognition Month. Ms. Ida Tramble is in her second year on the Arkadelphia Public School Board. She recently earned her Certificate of Boardsmanship from the Arkansas School Board Association. Ms. Tramble, a retired educator that taught in the Camden and Arkadelphia School District, says she always knew once she retired from teaching, she would vie for a seat on the school board. “I can't think of a better way to represent the educational interests of a community.” Ms. Tramble has two children, a son, and a daughter as well as two granddaughters. Her son is a Quality Assurance Engineer. Her daughter and one granddaughter work for the Malvern School District. Another granddaughter is a freshman at Henderson State University. Due to the forecast changing overnight to include Clark County in the Ice Storm Warning projected to begin during the school day, Arkadelphia Public Schools will be closed and utilize an AMI day today, Tuesday, January 31st. Stay safe and warm!

We celebrate during School Board Recognition Month, the newest member of the Arkadelphia Public School Board, Matt Johnson. He was elected to the board in 2022. Mr. Johnson was inspired to be on the board because he loves this school district and wants to help make it one of the best in the state of Arkansas. Matt is “so proud of the students, teachers, and support staff that work so hard for our district. They all have a passion for Arkadelphia Public Schools and it shows in their dedication.” Matt and his wife, Ranada have three children. They are Gunner, AHS Class of 2020; Tucker, AHS class of 2022; and Dekker, AHS class of 2033. Badger Pride runs deep! Thank you Matt Johnson for your willingness to serve our school district. Arkadelphia Families: The weather forecast is being monitored by our district. At this time, we have NOT issued an AMI for Tuesday. However, all K-12 students will be bringing their Chromebooks and chargers home today from school in the event we do transition to AMI(Alternative Method of Instruction) on Tuesday. We will continue to monitor the weather conditions. If the district does transition to an AMI Day, families will be notified through Arkadelphia Public School District social media, text alert system, and local media outlets.

In January, we are celebrating School Board Recognition Month. Dr. Kenneth G. Harris Jr. has been a member of the Arkadelphia School Board for approximately 40 years. One of the reasons Dr. Harris was inspired to seek this position is the fact that the only minority board member at the time had decided not to seek reelection. It was important to him to maintain some semblance of diversity on the school board. He shared there are several things to mention in terms of his pride in our schools including new buildings, outstanding band, winning teams in sports, and his list could go on. However, he says to have two schools named as a National School of Excellence in Perritt Primary School (under Principal Wanda O’Quinn) and Arkadelphia High School (under Principal Herman L. Thomas) were especially memorable moments. Dr. Harris, who has retired as an HSU Educator in the field of Education, is married to Pam, who spent 50 years in education. Their daughter is in her 26th year as an educator. His granddaughter is a junior at UCA. We are grateful for the leadership of Dr. Kenneth G. Harris on the Arkadelphia Public School Board. “Hats off to kindness!” Perritt students were welcome today by the AHS Dazzlers as they continue to participate in the Great Kindness Challenge. Students are also donating coins into their class tea jug for the winter clothing drive. Kindness matters! #GreatKindnessChallenge

We celebrate School Board Recognition Month in January. Dr. Jeff Root represents Zone 4 in our community. He was inspired to be on the school board because he wanted to give back to his alma mater. Dr. Root is especially proud of Arkadelphia teachers for their dedication to students before, during, and after the pandemic. “It is challenging work, and I applaud those who accept the challenge and devote themselves to preparing students for the lives ahead of them. I know I owe a great debt of thanks to my APS teachers.” Dr. Root is the Dean of Education and Humanities at OBU. His wife Deborah is an OBU faculty member and Director of Assessment and Institutional Research. Their daughter, Abby Root Curry, is an AHS graduate and theatre instructor in Little Rock. She and her husband, Steven, are the proud parents of Dr. Root’s eight-month old granddaughter, Mary Katherine. Dr. Root has also been in the Badger Football broadcast booth for 35 years! We appreciate Dr. Jeff Root and his leadership on the Arkadelphia School Board! #BadgerPride

Congratulations to the AHS JROTC Cadet Drill Team who earned 2nd Place at the Malvern Drill and PT Competition on Saturday. They finished 5 points behind LR Catholic High. Camryn Allison won the top female Cadet in the physical fitness event. Well deserved! #BadgerPride

“Kindness never gets old!” The Great Kindness Challenge is off to a great start at Peake Elementary School. Students are dressing the part. The day starts with kindness messages shared with the entire school from their classmates. Great job Peake! #GreatKindnessChallenge

Ms. Regan Morehead's 6th Grade Art Rotation class recently studied textile art. The students enjoyed the opportunity to learn the basics of weaving and make their own creations. It is amazing to see what students are producing in our art classes!

We continue to celebrate January as School Board Recognition Month. Today, we recognize board member, Gina White. Gina represents Zone 7 and is the Vice-President of the Board. She was inspired to be on the school board because she wanted the best for the children in our community and knows our entire town benefits from a great school system. Mrs. White is proud of the way we are all a big Badger family. “It is amazing how our community rallies around and constantly supports our teachers, administrators, and especially our students.” Gina and her husband, Rob, began their relationship at Goza back in their junior high days. They have one daughter, Lauren, who is a sophomore at AHS. Thank you Gina White for your leadership! #BadgerPride

Greg and Wanda Lathem were presented a Badger Pride Award in the January Board meeting. The Lathems volunteer on the Perritt campus rain or shine as students arrive at school. Everyone loves seeing the smile on their face. Thank you for being a ray of sunshine! #BadgerPride

January is School Board Recognition Month. Today, we recognize APSD School Board member, Clark Tennyson. Mr. Tennyson represents Zone 6 constituents. Clark was inspired to be on the school board because he feels Arkadelphia has a great thing going and wants to help keep those great things working. Clark is proud of the outstanding group of teachers, administrators, coaches, and support staff who are all focused on student achievement. He and his wife, Katie, have a son in Mrs. Miller’s third-grade class at Peake Elementary. We are thankful to have your leadership on the APSD Board of Education! #BadgerPride
