Goza Middle School Sixth-Grade Teachers took students on a field trip to the Little Rock Central High National Historic Site. It was a great experience for the students and just as exciting is the glowing letter our district administration received from the site director regarding their visit. An excerpt from the letter reads: "I work with thousands of students every year from all backgrounds, all age ranges, and at all levels of pre-knowledge and preparedness; these students stood out to me among those I have had the chance to work with this thus far in 2023 for their maturity, respect for the story, behavior, and curiosity. I know that this is a direct reflection of the teachers and staff who work with them on a daily basis.” Having been nominated by Cheryl Merk, GMS Principal, the teachers received a Badger Pride Award at the March School Board Meeting. Thank you, Brandi Cotton, Jeremy Smith, Misty Smith, Kaki Forthman, Griffin Pritchard (not pictured), and Meridith Armstrong (not pictured), for the exceptional work you do with our students at Goza Middle School! We are proud of all of you! #BadgerPride

Public Information Release On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, it was reported to the Arkadelphia High School administration that a firearm was in a student’s vehicle in the parking lot. School administrators met with the student and recovered a firearm from the student’s vehicle in the parking lot. At no time was there any threat made involving a weapon and the student was taken into custody and turned over to Clark County Juvenile Services. The matter was investigated by School Resource Officers and detectives from the police department with full cooperation by APSD personnel. Formal charges are pending and will be decided upon by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office. In a separate incident, children outside at Peake Elementary reported hearing possible gunshots and were immediately taken inside the building by administration. Patrol officers, detectives, and School Resource Officers thoroughly checked the surrounding neighborhoods. Officers spoke with area residents and believe the sounds were several blocks from the school, however at this time no evidence of gunshots or the exact location of the sounds have been located. In both incidents, there were no threats to the students or staff, and the safety of the students at both campuses was given the highest priority. We appreciate the working relationship we have with the Arkadelphia Police Department and their dedication to our children and our community.
