Peake Elementary Teachers Maria Hoffman, Cherrel MaGee, Becky McBride, Arnesha Talley, and Candace Williams, this week, attended the first half of the Southwest ESOL Institute. Attendance at the ESOL Institute signifies a teacher’s commitment to best classroom practices for helping students acquire knowledge while developing their academic English. The Institute is a 10-day, intense training in the field of English to Speakers of Other Languages. Six days were completed this week, while the other four will be completed on Saturdays throughout the 2025 - 2026 school year. The Institute is funded by a grant from the Arkansas Department of Education.
Participants heard from nationally recognized speakers such as Mark Vasquez and Keith Folse. Local teachers who are experts in their field provided real-world scenarios through demonstrations and panel discussions. Through the Institute, teachers will earn 12 hours of graduate credit and take the ESL Praxis test. Upon receiving passing scores, English as a Second Language will be added to a teacher’s license.

Let’s end this week sharing about the amazing job that two FBLA National Leadership Conference qualifying teams did presenting their projects to the Arkadelphia School Board in May. The Digital Video Production team of Caiden Dickerson and Trace Young delivered their video and the process they went through to complete the production. Brylee Russey and Jadyn Thompson presented their Local Chapter Annual Business Report project, which highlights the outstanding accomplishments of the AHS FBLA Chapter over the past year. Their presentations demonstrated the hard work they are putting into not only qualifying but also having a successful outcome at the National Leadership Conference, which is at the end of this month.
